A responsible developer and operator of coal assets to provide energy security to support regional growth and create wealth for its shareholders

AAA Drilling

In September 2014 IEC completed a joint venture transaction with General Petroleum Oils and Tools Pty Limited (“GPOT”), a leading Queensland based provider of drilling supplies and consulting services to the oil and gas industry. GPOT acquired a 50% interest in AAA Drilling Limited (“AAA Mauritius”), a wholly owned Mauritian subsidiary of IEC. Both joint venture partners have equal representation on the board.

The Mauritian subsidiary has itself a subsidiary, AAA Drilling Limited (“AAA Tanzania”), an operating drilling company in Tanzania that was established to undertake drilling and logging for IEC entities and third party customers in Eastern Africa. AAA Tanzania is seeking to expand its operations in Eastern Africa. It runs two core-drilling rigs and one multipurpose (core-mud rotary) rig.

The company’s key asset is its highly skilled and motivated staff. Drilling projects have been completed in Malawi and Southern Tanzania.

AAA Drilling's crews have experience in drilling a wide range of rocks in the region, for mineral exploration, geothermal walls and coal seam gas. AAA Drilling can also undertake environmental and geotechnical drilling.

Equipment & Services

AAA Drilling uses Atlas Copco CS10 and CS14 rigs for core drilling, and a Hanjin D&B 45 for deep core drilling and mud-rotary.

The company's rigs are purchased new from respected manufacturers and are chosen for their rugged construction, high capacity and lower down times, as required in difficult and abrasive drilling environments.

Support trucks are Isuzu 4WDs. The company provides geophysical logging and in-hole surveying using reflex equipment.

Safety & Training

AAA Drilling prides itself on its environmental, health & safety, and training standards. It recognises these standards as core values that are a key ingredient of its success.

The safety program, including training, inspections, job safety analysis, and management leadership are a key part of the company and overseen by management. Safety excellence not only adds quality to what the company achieves in the field, it reinforces the fundamental respect it has for its employees, clients and the public.
